Quilted cushion made by Doris James (1923-2015), a hairdresser from Abertridwr. The work was awarded a prize at the National Eisteddfod in 1950, and at a quilting exhibition held in the grounds of St Fagans Castle in 1951. The event was staged in conjunction with the Festival of Britain.
Square rose pink cushion with filling. Cover made from crepe fabric. Both sides hand quilted in even running stitch. The front has an 'Abertridwr star' in centre on diamond shaped field with spiral filling, with overlapping shell filling in each corner. The back has overall pattern of double trellis. Continuous strip of piping all around edge. Name and address of maker attached in one corner (on back).
