Aur o Gymru’r Oes Efydd

Aur o Gymru'r Oes Efydd

Late Iron Age / Roman brass plaque

Trapeze-shaped plaque of thin sheeting; of identical size and outline with plaque 63.419/10. Damaged near the narrow end and at the corners of the broad ends. With a 1/3-round embossed moulding around all edges and rivet-holes at the corners and halfway along each side, but the duplication of holes halfway along the broader ends suggests remounting. The embossed pattern consists of an opposed pair of human heads, of continental La Tène tradition, linked by a common 'neck' set in closed palmettes with attached leaves, the outlining grooves being emphasised by rolled-graver lines. The lentoid eyes of the heads are similarly emphasised.
