I found this very interesting. It's hard looking a chunk of oak and adding history and reality to it, and imagining what historians say. I always think the greatest magic must be in digging up artefacts and researching them. When they are displayed in a museum, out of their rooted bed, I find it hard to get really excited about them. It's not that I don't have a vivid imagination, it's more that relics value, for me are at their greatest interest resting in their surroundings. Sorry geologists but I find museums very sterile. I have removed stones, bones, bits of wood etc from their surroundings, taken them home and looked at them, but they loose their magic when isolated from their surroundings. I sound unrealistic and critical of musiems but if there is a way of keeping relics where they are found and letting people find these themselves I believe the magic would be doubled for the artefact. For example, cave paintings seeing them there is a huge percentage of what I would like.
