Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe
Heavily leaded South Wales type socketed axe with three converging ribs on each face (Schmidt and Burgess, 1981). It has a flat-topped, projecting mouth moulding sloping downwards towards the high-set loop. There is one prominent runner scar and the vestiges of three others visible on the mouth which is assymetrical due to misalignment of the mould which may also have caused the hole on one face. The cutting edge is worn and damaged. The axe is heavily corroded with a black layer overlying the green corrosion products. Information taken from Wear, (forthcoming).
