Prehistoric antler handle
Tip of an antler tine, cut off as a 70mm length and subsequently hacked and roughly facetted. Despite this, the tip appears quite polished and there is a possible incised line 1mm from the cut edge. The cancellous tissue has been hollowed out, perhaps intended to be used as a handle?? Antler tines have been utilised as handles at the Early Iron Age sites of Potterne (Lawson, 2000, 231-239, fig.94) and All Cannings Cross (Cunnington, 1923, 106, PL.15)
