Sampler
Unbleached linen, embroidered with coloured silks in cross, satin, chain, eyelet and double-faggot stitches, and decorated with cut and drawn work filled with needle-point stitches. At the top in four horizontal rows are capital letters of the alphabet twice repeated. Next, in two rows, is the name "KATHERINE / MANNING" and the date 1659. Below are four bands of gradually increasing width containing wavy stems with pinks and other flowers and geometrical patterns. At the bottom are two bands of cut and drawn work.
