Tea cosy (quilted)
Quilted teacosy, early 1950s. Made by Doris James (1923-2015), a hairdresser from Abertridwr.
Made from a gold coloured tabby-woven fabric. Quilted overall in running stitch. Constructed of four quilted panels which are joined along the sides and are each stitched together on the middle point of the upper edge, where a metal ring has been attached (covered in buttonhole stitch using yellow-brown thread). When not in use, two sides collapse, enabling the teacosy can lie flat. The two panels that fold are quilted in trellis design, and the other two sides have the motif of the 'Abertridwr star'. Interior lining made of same fabric (single continuous piece plus one piece has been joined on which is slightly darker). It is entirely quilted in trellis design. Piping along vertical edges. Top and bottom edges finished with running stitch.
