Roman samian bowl, decorated
The ovolo is small, neat and double bordered, the tongue with a bead tip. The decoration consists of a large leaf scroll with curved heart shaped leaves, five lobed buds, twisted buds and bifid leaf tendril bindings. There is also a bird among the leaves O.2247. All the details apart from the heart shaped leaves may be found among the types assigned to Masclus on Knorr 1919, Taf. 52, and on the sherd, signed MA in the mould, illustrated by Knorr. The heart shaped leaves seem to match those on a Dr. 29 stamped by Felix and are narrower than the equivalent leaf illustrated as a Masclus type. They also have a clearly marked midrib. The style is typical of Dr. 30 vases by Masclus, and this example may be assigned to him.
Dr 30 is an approximately cylindrical decorated bowl (vase)
