Roman copper alloy disc
Bronze disc with repousse ornament. There are traces of 'silvering'. The piece is badly damaged. There are two holes pierced in the disc perhaps originally for attachment. In the centre of the disc is the stocky figure of a naked winged cupid with his weight on the right foot, the left leg is bent and the foot raised above the ground line. The wings are outspread in low relief to either side of the figure. The cupid holds an attribute in his left hand. On his far left in low relief is a tripod surmounted by a now unidentifiable feature: on his right is a ?garden fountain comprising a bowl set on a single pedestal. Of unknown function.
