Bowl with open, plain rim, slightly rounded sides with a small flange above the foot rim, the base has a rounded foot rim that is slightly flaring; the exterior is transfer printed in brown with a scene of a locomotive pulling a ?mail carriage, four passenger carriages and a cargo carriage carrying a horse coach, the locomotive is passing through a countryside scene, twice repeated around the circumference of the bowl, which comprises hills, trees, a church and a small house, the locomotive and carriages are rather crudely overpainted in maroon and blue-green enamel, the interior rim is decorated with a brown transfer printed band consisting of a band of stylised flowers in hexagonal shields, above a band of triangles with dots, above a band of simple, inverted fleur-de-lys, the bowl has a clear glaze, which pools to a pearl blue on the foot rim.
