Early Iron Age bronze swans neck pin
CuA decorated swan’s neck or ring-headed pin (4 fragments). The head was crooked, rather than having a continuous ring, whilst the pin is round sectioned. Pin has a circular bronze knob on the shoulder and diagnostic notching (three notches) at the end of the head. Typological affinities: The bronze knob on the shoulder of this pin is an unusual feature for Britain and to date no parallels have been found. An Early to Middle Iron Age date is suggested (700-300BC). These items of personal adornment are rarely found within hoards, being more typical within settlement, midden and votive contexts.
