Iron Age copper alloy terret
An elaborate copper alloy terret with a hoop with a 'tear-shaped' profile, growing longer as it approaches the oval stops and circular at the top. The bar has been roughly cast and has a thin oval cross section. The stops consist of a rounded moulding with a median groove, this groove is absent on the interior of the moulding and would appear to have been worn by the harness straps. The terret is crowned with two integral horns on the same plain as the hoop. The horns are of rounded triangular profile ending on one side in a circular knob above a single groove. There is some damage to the inner side of both horns and it is now unclear as to whether the horns met above the hoop, possibly forming another loop, or terminated near the centre of the terret. The wear facets on the interior of the hoop are confined to the bottom on and near the stops.
