Iron Age iron cup headed pin
Head and sinuous neck of a large iron pin. The surviving shank is of circular cross section and terminates with a hemispherical cup forged axally upon the neck. Central to the cup is a thin peg to secure an infill (which was apparently a 'whitish-grey opaque material'). There was also a thin rib crossing the cup diametrically which did not survive conservation. A possible parallel in bronze from Garton Slack, Yorkshire unlikely to be later than 300BC (Stead, 1971) while smaller versions from Dinorben may be of similar date (Gardner and Savory, 1971, 43-44, fig.11)
