Hunting breeches
Riding breeches (hunt) worn by Robert William Llewellyn of Baglan Hall.
Made from cream woollen twill. Five concealed brass button fastening down centre front with one larger, visible button at top. Six brass buttons along waist for fitting braces. Two hip slit pockets lined with white cotton tabby fabric. Centre front opening lined with white linen tabby fabric. Waist lined with strip of white cotton tabby fabric (cut on the bias). Cotton tabby piping along upper edge of waist (bias-cut). Two rectangular patches of white linen tabby fabric sandwiched under waist lining on either side of inner centre back. White chamois leather reinforcing inner knees. 14cm wide strip of finer cream woollen twill stitched to lower leg. Long slit at outer calves fastened with three different types of mother-of-pearl buttons: four buttons on fine twill, four different buttons on coarser twill. Third type of button in centre between the two. In addition to button fastening, there are two tape ties of chamois leather attached to small brass buttons on inside just above strip of fine twill (brass buttons are covered with white cellulosic tabby woven fabric). Lower section of buttons and buttonholes lined with white cotton tabby fabric, upper section lined with fine wool twill (buttonholes) / white cotton sateen (buttons). One further mother-of-pearl button stitched to lower inner corner of chamois leather patches.
