Roman samian bowl, decorated
Body sherd of a common decorated bowl. Form 37, Central Gaulish. The ovolo, first used at Les Martres-de-Veyre, appears occasionally on Lezoux ware, particularly on bowls in the style of Pugnus II. The decoration is divided into panels, one containing a double medallion. The eleven or twelve petalled rosette with hollow centre is on a stamped bowl of Pugnus of Exeter, in one of his later styles. c.A.D. 150-180.
Dr 37 is a hemispherical decorated bowl
