Roman stone statue of Genius
Statue carved in the round; the head, the whole of the right arm, the right leg and most of the left leg below the knee are missing, as is a large flake from the back of the torso. The figure is half-draped, with a cloak that hangs from the left shoulder, carried across the back, wrapped around the lower part of the body, and then thrown over the left arm. The left hand grasps the bottom of a cornucopiae, the top of which is missing, decked with palm branches. The left leg is bent at the knee to an unusual degree. Both the hand and the lower arm are unnaturally thick and are not in proportion to the rest of the body. Tool-marks are visible on the back of the torso which, on the whole, is not as carefully finished as the front. The stone shows signs of weathering and is chipped in various places.
