Bellarmine or Bartmann jug, of grey stoneware, standing on a tapered foot, integral to the body with flared and uneven foot rim, bulbous body, rising to long, narrow neck with broad corded rim; simple pulled handle with elongated lower terminal; the body covered with an iron brown wash under a speckled salt glaze; applied to the neck, opposite the handle, a moulded bearded facemask, with the beard and eyebrows resembling wheat sheaves, below this an applied medallion containing a raised shield, the shield containing two chevrons, the mantling consisting of wheat ears.
