Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe
Looped, with three parallel ribs on face.
Socketed axe of ('Hybrid' South Wales Type) Northover
Looped socketed axe with damaged socket end and casting flaw on one side. Axe has three ribs, and a narrow but pronounced lip around the mouth. The loop is unusually wide. File marks can be seen on the blade surfaces and along the midpoint of the sides of the axe indicating sharpening and removal of casting flashes. The socket is unusual in shape, tapering into a rectangular shaped point at the base. The heavy weight of this axe suggests a high lead content.
