Early Medieval bone comb
Composite single sided bone comb of high backed type consisting of two tooth plate fragments with the remains of 17 teeth. The high back has a curved profile and its edge has been decorated with a sawn herring-bone pattern. Decoration on the side of the side plate consists of conjoined ring and dot designs forming short vertical lines. The side plate is fastened by one iron rivet and part of a perforation for another remains. A single iron rivet on the high back of the first tooth plate appears to serve no function but may have held a method of suspension such as an iron ring.
