Cup and saucer
Cup, earthenware, standing on a spreading rounded waisted foot-rim, bell-shaped body with rounded sides and flaring everted lip-rim, plain loop handle; transfer-printed in blue with to the exterior sides of the body 'The Rhine' pattern, an Italianate landscape showing an expanse of water surrounded by trees and Italianate buildings with several small buildings and a group of travellers in the foreground, a similar scaled-down version of the same pattern to the interior bottom of the bowl, a wide border to the interior lip-rim of arcades and stylized geometric foliate motifs on a blue ground, a running geometric pattern to the handle. Saucer, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim and spreading curving sides; transfer-printed in blue with to the centre of the well 'The Rhine' pattern as on the cup, wide border to the rim as on the cup.
