FORT STURGEON (7172gt) : North Sands type built 1943 by Victoria Machinery Depot Co., Victoria, B.C. (engine by Allis-Chalmers) for the Canadian Government managed for MoWT by Walter Runciman & Co., Newcastle. 1946 – Transferred to MOT, managed by Dalhousie Steam & Motor Ship Co., and Thos. Dunlop & Sons from 1950. 1950 – Sold to Canadian Tramp Shipping Co., London and renamed EAST HILL, managed by Counties Ship Management Co. 1957 – Sold to Nestor Cia. Nav., Monrovia, and renamed RIO ALTO. 1959 – Transferred to Pacific Shipping Corp., Monrovia. (same name) 1965 – Sold to Viaguardia Cia. Nav., Monrovia (later, Aktor Shipping Co., Famagusta), and renamed AKTOR. The vessel sprang a leak on 31 May 1966 while en route from Cuba to China and was abandoned. She sank the next day, 800 miles south west of San Diego.
