Thomas, Amy (Amy Thomas (10 June 1877 - 28 July 1967), quilter and quilting class teacher. Born Amy Griffiths at Frondeg, Llanwinio, Pembrokesire. Married Lewis Thomas on 30 September 1902 at Carmarthen Registry Office. Moved to Aberdare for her husband to find work in the colliery. They had four children (Glyn, Lydia, Margaret and William). In 1928-9, she was appointed by the Rural Industries Bureau to teach a quilting class in Aberdare as part of a scheme to revive the art of quilting in the depressed south Wales valleys.)
Quilted tea cosy made by Amy Thomas of Aberdare.
Made from gold synthetic satin fabric in four sections, each shaped like a pointed arch, and each bearing the same quilted motif. Piping along all edges (self fabric wrapped around S-twist cord). Stitched bow made from piping at top. Lined with brown synthetic satin. Selvages of gold fabric along inner edge. All quilting done by hand using gold coloured thread. Piping machine stitched.
