Smith, Sampson (Longton business founded c 1846. Smith died in 1878 but the firm continued in production under various names until 1963. Figure making continued until at least 1926 (see Gordon Pugh pp12-13))
Figure of Earl of Beaconsfield (Disraeli), white earthenware, blue tinted crackled glaze, plinth inscribed in gilt script, standing on green grassy ground,in contemporary dress: black underglaze coat with gilt outlining, over white waistcoat and trousers, white collar, white cravat, face naturalistically painted, black hair, right hand on hip and resting left hand on grey pedestal. Nose chipped.
