Early Iron Age bronze handle strap
Fragmentary cast handle-strap, broken in antiquity along its length. There are four rounded transverse ribs, which are not separated by well-defined grooves or mouldings. The ribs were probably once bordered by flaring flanges, each now broken down and heavily eroded. The underside of the strap is corrugated. One worn attachment plate is visible, along which there are three grooves indicating the one time location of securing rods. The central one is wider than the other two. In addition, near each flange margin, there is a further rod hole inset and cut into the side of the two marginal ribs. The strap is heavily eroded, much of the original rib surfaces having been lost. This belongs to a Class B2 cauldron of Type Battersea, with parallels at Battersea, Broom & Ipswich and Catalogue Number 40 above. A Llyn Fawr period date (750-600BC) is confirmed.
