Standing figure of the young Queen Victoria, in crown and robes, white earthenware, crackled glaze, circular pedestal base, press-moulded in three sections, left arm at side, right arm, holding bouquet, in front of her waist, wearing a white dress fringed in green, skirt banded with pink edged in red, underglaze blue bodice moulded with a garter star, tartan sash, purple robe edged with ermine, necklace, face naturalistically painted, black hair, open crown.
Queen Victoria was an important popular icon and her image was often used to decorate ceramics and other decorative household goods. Staffordshire figures were mass-produced, affordable and stylistically distinctive. Their subject matter was diverse and included religion, politics and the commemoration of major events.
