Banner
Banner ‘Big Queer Picnic’. Made in 2018, it was used at each Big Queer Picnic in Cardiff from 2018 until 2023.
This banner was made by Fionnula Blossom. Fion stated that “I made the banner back in 2018 when I joined the organising group. The banner is made from a bedsheet, acrylic paint, and eyelets. The colours of the banner were of the then pride progress flag".
The first Big Queer Picnic was held in August 2012 as an alternative to the commercialisation of Pride Cymru and the cost of tickets. It is a free and fully an inclusive, non-commercialised community based event celebrating sexual and gender diversity. It is usually held on the Saturday of Pride Cymru in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
Narrow, single-sided, rectangular banner (in landscape format) of several (3?) layers of white cotton fabric; edges machine stitched using white thread; 10 metal eyelets spaced at even distances around edges of banner (the eyelet on the lower proper right corner is missing). Eyelets are reinforced with additional stitching. 'BIG QUEER PICNIC' painted on in large capital letters in rainbow/pride colours.
