Chambers, William South Wales Pottery (1839 - 1855)
Jug, earthenware, oval shape, standing on a spreading waisted lobed foot-rim, bulbous ribbed sides tapering inwards at the shoulder before flaring slightly to the mouth, lobed lip-rim, wide raised beak spout, high square-shouldered scroll handle; transfer-printed in brown with the 'Giraffe' pattern, to either side of the exterior body a scene showing a figure leading a giraffe in an Eastern landscape with trees and temple-like buildings to either side and in the background further buildings and distant hills, border to the exterior lip-rim and the spout of scrolls and flower heads on a stippled brown ground, a similar border of scrolls and folwer heads to the foot-rim, the interior lip-rim and spout, and the handle.
