Swatch of tweed
Swatches of tweed held in rigid top made from wood and cardboard which is covered in black imitation leather (coated fabric) and has printed inscription in silver. The tops of the swatches appear to have been embedded in adhesive which holds them in place.
Each fabric has small white oval self-adhesive paper label on the front (except uppermost one which has its label stuck to the reverse) with printed swatch number, width and weight. These labels also have a pale green background print of the Manx 'Three legs of Man'.
Some of these labels are marked in pencil or blue biro.
4th swatch from the bottom has a scrap of note paper pinned to it, inscribed with the number of the swatch in pencil.
Two stitches of thick black cellulosic thread appear out of the rigid top (both front and back) and are secured in the wool swatches. On the front, the stitches extend through 7 swatches, and on the back through 1 before they are secured and tied off.
The rigid top has a black cord attachment for hanging (cellulosic core covered with silk? fibre). The rope is fed through 2 copper alloy grommets which are set into the top and probably is held in place with knots on the inside.
3 pieces of tweed have been pinned to the 8th swatch from top.
