Seal impression: Royal
Obverse. The King enthroned, seated crowned and wearing a cloak with mantle of ermine fur, a chain with ornament hangs upon his breast (probably the badge and chain of an Order), his left hand supports a large orb surmounted by a cross flory, his right hand holds a sceptre. The gothic throne of previous seals is replaced by one of Palladian style with pillared back, the instep of the canopy ornamented by roses; the seat is carved with terminal heads of animals and covered with drapery. To either side of the throne, supported by a lion rampant, a shield ensigned by a royal crown: quarterly, FRANCE (Modern) and ENGLAND, encircled with the Garter bearing its motto: HONI SOIT QVI MALI PENSE. On clear impressions, the foot-board is carved in panels and enriched with roses. Small quatrefoils form the stops of the legend
