Roman samian bowl
The lower zone of decoration is a leaf scroll with seven lobed leaves in the upper concavities, and small fringed medallions containing a dog to the right, its foreleg raised. There are double leaf tendril bindings, and six petalled rosettes in the field. The dog is fairly common type, close to O.1970, but possibly a little larger. The fringed medallion is like that used by Bassus and Coelus, the same potters used a double leaf tendril binding. The seven lobed leaf was used by a number of potters. A similar design with the dog, O.1970, within (different) fringed medallions is shown in Knorr 1952, Taf. 30 B.
