Makepeace, John (John Makepeace was born in 1939. Inspired by the Cotswolds Arts and Crafts tradition (e.g. he admired Hugh Birkett and trained with Keith Cooper), he combines a traditional sense of craftsmanship with contemporary style and materials. Chest of drawers, satinwood(?) and acrylic, the carcase comprising four square uprights with pyramidal feet linked at the top, near the middle and above the feet by square box-like sections formed by side, front and back rails enclosing opaque grey acrylic panels at top and bottom, between these sections down each side a series of side panels tenoned into the uprights and separated by horizontal gaps that correspond with grooves cut into the uprights, these to fit the fourteen drawers of various heights, nine in the top section, five in the bottom section, each drawer square with wood sides mitred (with blind dovetails?) at the corners and with coloured acrylic bases (top to bottom, 3 orange, 3 pale orange, 3 yellow, 1 orange, 1 dark orange, 1 green, 1 red, 1 blue) that protrude on all sides, the overlap at the sides sliding freely in the grooves and gaps so that the drawers can open at both front and back.
