Roman / Early Medieval glass bead
This is a complete Early Medieval/Roman glass bead.
It's made from clear glass with a green tint. It has no surface decorations but numerous air bubbles worked like patterning by themselves. Undecorated globular beads are in use from the 1st century AD but were more common in the 3rd century or later into the Early Medieval. This bead was found within the grave of SK242 (2025.7H/9.242) which was from Burial Phase F: 771-992 AD. This bead may have been deliberately deposited with the burial or may have simply been mixed in with the soil.
Its shape is globular and flattened spherical. Categorised as Group 7 (ii) by Guido (1978)
