Roman stone tombstone
The gable of this gravestone was decorated at the centre, with a wheel rosette, surrounded by a wreath, of which the foliage is indicated by two bands of oblique incisions. To the right is a compass-scribed circle divided internally by arcs, and the points left by the scriber are clearly visible. The wreath is a symbol of victory over the powers of evil, and consequently of immortality. Gravestones were frequently re-used as paving slabs at Bulmore.
