Swansea circa 1852 (print)
Hughes, David (Mr) (Trained as an art teacher but did not follow the profession instead working as a commercial artist and designer. Initially worked for Monmouthshire Board Mills (paper and card manufacturers), Newport, designing packaging, then worked on advertisements and displays for Davies Brothers, builders’ merchants, Newport until the marketing department was disbanded when the firm was acquired by Blue Circle Cement in 1987, when he turned freelance. Subsequently he undertook a wide range of illustration and sign writing, concentrating on pre-print design work. He always had an interest in railways and for many years volunteered on the Dean Forest Railway as a signalman, and when the preservation line grew, was commissioned to provide much of its advertisements and marketing material.)
Monotone print of a pen and ink drawing showing an aerial view of Swansea as it might have been circa 1852. Stuck onto card. Signed and dated.
