Black japanned cast iron frame and adjusting pedals, with red velvet covered seat, back, arm rests and head rest
The textiles consist of 6 parts; back rest, seat, head support, 2 arm rests and a wrist support. All of the textile elements are covered in red velvet with a cotton ground (2/1 twill weave); the warp is red z spun yarn, the weft is blue 2 Z plied S spun yarn with a red cut silk pile. The stuffing appears to be horsehair with layers of hessian and light cotton. The back rest is covered on both sides with velvet. The seat has a cotton cover on the reverse side and the arm rests have no cover for the reverse, just bare wood. The textiles have been fixed to the frame with a series of screws apart from the wrist and head supports which are connected with metal bars.
