Scarf
Silk scarf in a presentation box. Given as a gift to a 'host' from Cardiff by a refugee from Ukraine who lived with her from August 2022 until May 2023. Manufactured by Latona, designed by Julia Kushnir.
Information from the manufaturer's website: 'Design UNBROKEN - it's about resilience and courage, the strength of the Ukrainian people. About the steel resilience of our soldiers and the inevitability of victory' [accessed 3 September 2025].
Silk scarf, 2/2 twill weave, machine-hemmed in blue and grey thread (two side edges blue and twoedges in grey). Printed design in blue, grey and yellow depicting four triangular wedges of different sizes; the spaces between the wedges are filled with military imagery. There are two figher jets, trucks fitted with guns, three different types of tanks and an armoured vehicle. The print also features silhouettes of soldiers carrying guns. The wedges are filled with a monochrome pattern (in blue/white) of floral designs such as one would find in traditional Ukrainian embroidery. There is printed inscription in cyrillic letters in blue (along the top) and in yellow (on the proper right side). Maker's mark is printed in the middle of the proper left edge. Woven maker's label is attached near lower proper left corner. Upper and proper right sides have an edging of the Ukrainian colours blue and yellow. Lower and proper left edges are grey with crosses and emblems relating to Ukraine (such as the golden tryzub/trident) printed in blue.
