Smock
Coat-type smock in a natural heavy cotton twill, with blue and white plain weave facings on the cuffs. Said to have been made at Llanbister, Radnorshire, and worn by a market gardener in the early 1900s.
Long sleeves, wide collar and shoulder pieces. Thirteen bone button fastening. Two button opening at cuffs. Shoulders and lower sleeves are lined with grey woollen cloth. The smocking is done in outline, wave, cable and double wave. The embroidery is done in feather, chain and French knots. The shoulder flaps are heavily embroidered with hearts and leaves. The back yoke has branches and leaves. The collar, boxes and cuffs are decorated with wavy feather stitching.
