Enw'r Safle: British Telecom Site, Caerleon
Nodiadau: Excavation conducted on land immediately to the east of the telephone exchange on Museum Street. Context 207 material was derived when the Roman main drain was opened and cleaned, probably during the early third century AD. The material derived from (207) and (243) was used to fill the trench left by the removal of the n-s lead water pipe. The drain was reroofed and metalled over. The adjacent basilica colonnade was rebuilt with a new, larger, pitched stone foundation (173) and the sidewalk portico was also rebuilt. (From archive Draft Text by David Maynard at NRLM.)
