Late Bronze Age bronze socketed spearhead
Plain pegged spearhead fragment. Partial upper-socket and lower blade fragment of socketed spearhead. The angle of separation of the blade base from the socket is steep. The width of 11.9mm from socket side to blade edge only 18mm up the blade indicates a wide blade base of kite shaped form. The circular socket continues up the middle of the blade, however tapers to 16.0mm diameter by the upper break. The casting seams have been well ground down, although no filing marks are visible. Most of the original blade edges have been chipped or corroded, however at one point, grinding marks at an angle to the blade edge indicate the blade was sharpened for use. Both upper and lower break edges look angular and fresh, although are soil covered. There is no denting, tearing or distortion to suggest impact or force exerted in breakage.
