Sampler; embroidered on fine linen canvas in coloured silks, mainly in single thread cross stitch. Alphabet and numerals on top, below which is a verse: "As you Expect that men [should] Deal By you So Deal By Them [Give] Each man his Due"; followed by a row of zigzag tem & strawberry motifs and & verse: "Fear Not Their Might Which Only Bodies Kill / But On Their Soul Cannot Effect their Will / Fear That Great God can Soul and Body Take / And Ca[st] [th]em Both Into Th[e] Eternal Lake". A row of flowering plants is followed by another verse: "Better is it to Gain Great Reputation / Than Heap up Wealth With trouble and Vexation". Below is a flower motif flanked by two rose motifs and a row of rose buds, followed by an inscription: "Hannah Ended This Sampler Thee First of the 10 Month 1736". The entire sampler os surrounded by a zigzag and floral border. In modern frame.
