Sampler
WOOLLEN CANVAS, embroidered with coloured silks, chiefly in cross Stitch. Divided horizontally into three compartments by narrow bands of ornament. The first compartment contains the text "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy Youth"; the second compartment contains the text "Jesus wept"; and conventional floral and tree designs, dogs, birds and crowns symmetrically arranged; in the third, between two large conventional flowering plants are the inscriptions:
"Pass a few swiftly fleeting years, And all that now in bodies live Shall quit like me the vale of tears, Their righteous sentence to receive.
But all before they hence remove May mansions for themselves prepare, In that eternal house above; And O my God shall I be there.
Anne Rees, February. 16. 1837"
There is a border of a wavy stem with strawberries. The worker, who was fourteen years of age in 1837, lived at Llangynwyd, Glamorganshire
