S.T. AVONMOUTH, half hull ship model
Half hull scale model of trawler S.T. AVONMOUTH. This was the first steam trawler specially built for Milford Haven owners. Makers plaque in lower right hand corner.
S.T. AVONMOUTH (weight 139 tons). Built 1890 by W. Harkess & Son, Middlesbrough, and launched on 20 May 1890. Official number 95766. Register Number BL4. Owned by Western Steam Trawling, Bristol, manager, F.J. Sellick of Milford. An iron crabber class side trawler with a crew of 9/10. Steam screw, coal burning. Ketch rigged: foresail, mainsail & mizzen. She was the first steam trawler to be specially built for Milford Haven ownership. In January 1915 she was requisitioned and converted into a minesweeper (Admy. No.963) but returned to the fishing fleet in April. On 29 July David Gwilym Jones of Dewsland Street, Milford became the new owner of the trawler. In 1917 it was requisitioned into the Fishery Reserve until the trawler was returned to new owner John McRae Knight of Wellington Road Hakin on 27 February 1919. She was broken up at Milford on 15 July 1925.
