Plate, earthenware, octagonal shape, standing on a rounded foot-rim with cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, the rim waved with two lobes at each corner; transfer-printed in purple with to the centre of the well a small oriental scene showing a figure mounted upon an elephant with another figure standing besides it, a large urn to one side of the scene surrounded by flowers and foliage, in the background across an expanse of water are pagodas on islands, stippled purple ground to the rim against which are reserved five panels containing small scnes of oriental pagodas, the panels interspersed with floral motifs surrounded by scrolls and foliage.
