Built 1912 by Richardson, Duck & Co., at Thornaby, as NANTWEN (4764gt) for W & CT Jones of Cardiff (see notes). She was sold to Morgan & Cadogan Ltd., Cardiff in 1918, and renamed WESTRA in 1921. 1926 - Bought by Britain S.S. Co. Ltd. (managed by Watts, Watts & Co. Ltd.), London, and renamed FINCHLEY. 1935 - Bought by Atlantic-Tank-Rhederi GmbH (John T. Essberger), Hamburg and renamed JOLANTHE. 1936 - Bought by Kauffahrtei Seereed (Adolf Wiards & Co.), Hamburg and renamed EMSRIFF. She was sunk in an Allied air attack on Hamburg in July 1944. In 1949, she was refloated and repaired and in 1950, lengthened from 380 to 419 feet and rebuilt to 5399gt. She arrived at Odense in May 1959 for breaking up. (see www.teesbuiltships.co.uk)
