Sampler
LINEN, embroidered with red and blue cottons in cross stitch. At the top are three horizontal rows, the first has lions and the second stags, both alternating with floral devices; the third row has the initials B L N flanked by ornamental devices alternating with the letter K which is alternately reversed. In the middle there is an urn and the date 1761. Below, between two horizontal bands of leaf ornament, is a band containing a conventional double-headed eagle between plants with stags and birds. There is a narrow hem stitched border. Possibly German.
