Child's chair
Mahogany, back has open work splat with 3 carved wheat ears, the front seat rail curved foot-board has three positions.
This chair belonged to Stephen Humphreys-Owen (August 1 1908-nov 21 1960). He was a privileged child who lived at Glansevern, a 28-room-mansion near Welshpool. There were at least eight servants employed at the house in 1911, among them a domestic nurse who would have cared for Stephen’s every need. Children with nursemaids and nannies were usually closer to them than their own parents
The chair was most likely used in the day nursery where Stephen would have ate his meals with the nurse. Nursery food was very dull: porridge, broth, steamed fish and minced chicken being the staples.
