Caswell Bay, photograph
Salted paper print, from calotype negative. Mounted on cream card. View of Caswell Bay.
John Dillwyn Llewelyn’s interest in the natural sciences included geology, in which he was interested since childhood. This is reflected in the numerous photographs he took of the south Wales coastline, especially the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, and Gower. The family had a seaside ‘cottage’ at Caswell Bay (not too far from their main estate at Penllergare), where they spent much time and images survive of the family at the cottage and on the beach. Mounted print. (Source: 'Pastures Green and Dark Satanic Mills: The British Passion for Landscape', 2015)
