Roman human tooth
Milk tooth, with the root being heavily resorbed. There is gross decay on the anterior (mesial) surface of the tooth, suggesting a somewhat refined diet. There is tartar on the cheek surface of the tooth, indicating a poor knowledge of oral cleanliness. There is surprisingly little wear of the biting surface, suggesting that the tooth opposing it had been lost earlier. The tooth will have been lost, probably naturally, at about 11-12 years.
