S.S. STAVROS COUMANTAROS (7176gt). EC2-S-C1 type Liberty ship built 1944 as JOHN M. BROOKE by J.A. Jones Construction Company, Panama City, Florida (engined by General Machinery Corp., Hamilton, Ohio) for USWSA, managed by North Atlantic & Gulf Steamship Co., New York. 1947 – Sold to John S. Coumantaros, Piraeus, and renamed STAVROS COUMANTAROS, registered in Greece but managed by Union Maritime & Shipping Co., London. 1952 – Same owner, but managed by Southern Steamship Ltd. 1960 – Sold to Maritime Co. Spetsai, Panama, and renamed SPETSAI (Greek flag), managed by Southern Star Shipping Co., New York. She was broken up at Taiwan in 1967.
