Slop bowl
Slop-bowl, greyish porcelain, probably a soapstone soft-paste, relatively light, with a poor smoky-yellow translucency to the base, green-tinged glaze; on a high foot rim, triangular in section, spreading sides, slightly everted lip; painted in over-glaze red and blue with an oriental landscape in red within a blue rectangular frame comprising a two storey building on rocks, a lattice fence to its left with two trees growing from it, and to the right a cliff and two conventionalised hillocks between which grows a thin feathery tree, three floating weeds in the foreground and flying birds in the sky, the upper edge of the frame with trefoil leaf ornament in red, large blue leaves at three corners, a square at its left side and a fan-shaped panel in blue below with a conventional rose spray bottom right, flower, fruit and foliage ornament to the other side, the inner edge has a red lattice diaper between blue lines and broken by blue panels containing a leaf and balls, red spray in the base.
